Team for the planet invests in Seaturns

Seaturns has become one of the first ten stars of Team for the Planet at its latest fundraising event!!!

By harnessing wave energy, we aim to provide an energy production solution that is compatible with climate and environmental imperatives and become a major player in wave energy worldwide. This partnership and the raising of more than €800k will give the Seaturns project a new dimension and accelerate the development of our innovative technology.

The first ranking of French start-ups in the maritime sector has been launched by the Cluster Maritime Français, under the patronage of the Secretary of State for the Sea, Hervé Berville, as part of the “Jeudis de l’innovation maritime” (Maritime Innovation Thursdays) and with the support of Indosuez Wealth Management.
35 promising start-ups from the maritime sector were shortlisted, including Seaturns in the Energy sector.

Shell GameChanger programme

Seaturns has been selected as part of the Shell GameChanger programme, which aims to identify technologies and solutions that support the energy transition. This programme aligns its efforts to the Powering Progress strategy, which accelerates the transition of Shell to net-zero emissions.
Among more than 60 companies that Shell GameChanger has worked with since 2021, Seaturns is the first and, for the moment, the only French company! This programme, in collaboration with Shell Marine Renewable Program, aims to accelerate the de-risking and the maturation of Seaturns’ technology thanks to the support and guidance from Shell experts. In the longer term, the partnership with Shell GameChanger could open new opportunities for technical and commercial collaboration.

Seaturns wins i-Nov 2023 national award

Seaturns wins the i-Nov 2023 national award to fund its project of demonstrating a prototype at sea and conceiving a scale-1 demonstrator following those tests. I-Nov is an innovation contest organised by BPIFrance and ADEME, as part of “France 2030” national investment plan. It rewards the highest-value projects in key areas of the French economy such as low-carbon energy solutions.

Seaturns closes the first part of its fundraising!
The WiCLUB Économie Bleue is a new financing scheme for innovative projects in the maritime sector, set up by the crowdfunding platform WiSEED, the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique (of which Seaturns is a member) and the Pôle Mer Méditerranée. It has simultaneously financed three projects, including Seaturns. A private investor also participated in this fundraising.

Strategy board

In August 2022 Seaturns set up an advisory board to advise on its development strategy. The members of this committee provide expertise in governance, commercial, financial, technological and legal strategy, intellectual property and the marine renewable energy sector. This committee is made up of the following people: Antoine BRIAND, Sébastien DUEZ and Marc LAFOSSE.

Shell Startup Engine programme

Seaturns has just been selected to be part of the Shell Startup Engine programme, along with Boreales Energy, Heliore Technologies, Up&Charge and WattAnyWhere.
Our ambition is to decarbonise and diversify the global energy mix. The multidisciplinary support of a mentor and experts from Shell France will facilitate our development in 2022-2023.

WiCLUB: crowdfunding

The Seaturns project has been selected by the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique and the Pôle Mer Méditerranée to be part of a selection of innovative projects that will be collectively funded within the WiCLUB Économie Bleue. The fundraising is ensured by the crowdfunding platform WiSEED and it starts today!
After technical and economic studies and tank tests which validated the relevance and performance of our wave energy converter, we are preparing the sea trials of a prototype. The project has gained in maturity and is entering a new and more ambitious phase to find its place in the solutions for the future.

Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique certification label

The Seaturns project has just been certified by the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique!

Over the last few years, technical and economic studies and tank tests (Nantes in 2018, Aalborg and Porto in 2020, Santander in 2021) have validated the relevance and performance of our concept.
Building on these good results, Seaturns is now entering a more ambitious development stage. The next phase of R&D consists in designing, manufacturing and testing at sea a prototype. This label is a great recognition, valuing our project!

Tank tests at IH Cantabria

Seaturns conducted two weeks of tests in the wave basin of IH Cantabria in Spain with the technical support of INNOSEA.
The access to the basin was funded by the European research programme MaRINET2 (as part of the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme).

Grant of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region

The Nouvelle-Aquitaine region has just voted to award Seaturns a “Startup innovation – R&D” grant which will help funding the design, the manufacturing and the sea trials of a prototype. With this decision, which is part of the Néo Terra roadmap, the region reaffirms its support for the project after initial funding in 2019-2020 covering tank tests and studies.

HyWEC 2 conference

Invited by Institut de Mathématiques de Bordeaux (CNRS joint research unit – University of Bordeaux – Bordeaux INP), Seaturns gave a speech on june 20, 2019 during the scientific conference HyWEC 2 – The Hydrodynamics of Wave Energy Converters (https://hywec2.sciencesconf.org/). This event brought together dozens of European researchers specialised in the modeling, mathematical analysis and numerical simulation of wave energy converters and more generally the interaction between waves and structures.

Seaturns presented the main technical and scientific challenges facing the start-up in the development of its innovative wave energy recovery system.

World Impact Summit 2019

The Bordeaux start-up Seaturns held a stand at the World Impact Summit 2019, the international summit of solutions for the planet that took place from 23 to 25 May 2019 in Bordeaux. This event brought together 2,500 professionals, 200 exhibitors and 40 speakers on the subject of major environmental issues.

Seaturns presented its innovative system for producing electricity or freshwater from wave energy. Through its activity, Seaturns wants to make a contribution to the resolution of several problems:

  • Integrate renewable energy, and particularly wave energy, into the energy mix to meet the growing demand while diversifying the modes of production;
  • Develop a low-carbon, non-polluting, robust and competitive energy production solution from a considerable resource available near the coast, close to densely populated areas.

On the occasion of this international event, Vincent TOURNERIE, president of the company, participated on May 24 in the show “La France bouge”, animated live by Raphaëlle DUCHEMIN on Europe 1.
